Feed Me!

We are embarking on a great new adventure with Jax, solid foods!  It had been my plan form the beginning to wait until 6 months to introduce solid foods.  I don't really see the reason to introduce them earlier and my pediatrician agreed.  Well in the last few weeks, Jax has been showing lots of signs that he was ready for solid foods.  He is obsessed with what I put in my mouth and mimics my mouth.  He also grabs for my cup constantly.  We decided that we would go ahead and start solids this week even though our 6 month check up isn't until next week.

I have done lots of research of baby food and decided to make my own.  I like being able to control what goes in the food and leave out all the unnecessary stuff.  Plus there seems like there is something wonderful about buying and preparing your baby's first foods.  I have been using wholesomebabyfood.com for ideas on what foods to introduce when and what recipes to try.  I have been recommended this website my many moms and it has great reviews.

So today we started with avocado.  It is on the list of the first foods to introduce and it is the only food Jax has tasted.  (he has licked a piece in my hand twice)  I mashed and blended the avocados so that when Jasper got home we could feed Jax, all the while feeling so proud of my new found "inner Betty Crocker".  Let's just say for Jax, the idea of food might have been better than the reality.  I think these pictures say it all...

Here Jax was all excited to try some food!

Still smiling

"Wait, what IS this stuff?"

Here Jax gave us the "look" to indicate he wasn't feeling it.

Can you see the terror in those eyes?

And here was the end result.

I managed to make Jax laugh for a moment as proof he wasn't miserable the entire time.

Jasper actually said to Jax "son you need to learn early on how to pretend to like your mother's cooking."  Well Jasper tried the food to see how it tasted and it looks like he may need to follow his own advice.

After trying the food and immediately making the gag reflex, Jasper went to the refrigerator and grabbed his chocolate doughnut holes to wash down the avocado.

So apparently we are teaching Jax that if you don't like your veggies you can just spit them out and grab the chocolate.  Awesome, looks like we won't be getting those parent of the years awards anytime soon. Maybe I am not Betty Crocker yet, but we are going to try again tomorrow.  Hopefully we will find some foods this kid like soon  before both my boys get too upset.

  1. Kudos to you for making your own baby food! I am slightly obsessed with baby nutrition and think what your doing with Jax is fantastic! If only more people did their research!
