Thirty

"Time and Tide wait for no man, but time always stands still for a woman of thirty."
                                                                     Robert Frost

This year I turned the big 3-0. I am bidding a fond farewell to my twenties and venturing into the next decade of my life. My thirties. I’ve been asked a few times if I’m dreading it, and I am honest when I reply that I am not.  Honestly, I love birthdays.  I think they are a big deal and worth celebrating, though the method of celebration can vary.

This can sometimes be hard for someone who has a birthday that falls smack dab in the middle of Christmas celebrations.   I think my mom recognized early on that a Christmas birthday can get overshadowed and so she always made a big deal of mine.  I always had a separate birthday celebration, with presents in birthday paper not Christmas paper, and when I was little I even had "half birthday" parties in the summer so I can a party with my friends since it can be hard to have parties the week of Christmas.  Jasper likes to joke that I have a birthday week as opposed to a day as there are usually multiple celebrations for my family.

This year I decided to spend my birthday doing enjoying a little "me" time by having a spa day.  Amy, the doula that has been coming to our house weekly since soon after Jax was born, came on my birthday and stayed from 9-3 to watch Jax so I could have the whole day to enjoy some pampering.  When I came back, my house was spotless, there was food in the fridge and my baby was as happy as could be.  I couldn't ask for a better gift!  I spent the rest of the afternoon having some play time with my little man and after Jasper got home and we put Jax down to sleep, Tina came over to stay at the house while Jasper and I went out to dinner.  This was the first dinner out past 8 that we have had since Jax was born I think and it was fantastic.

This picture from dinner cracks me up because I decided to order the wine flight with my dinner.  Usually this is a small tasting of a few wines.  Well when they brought it out it became apparent that the "tasting" size at this restaurant was very generous!  Happy birthday to me!
