Adventures in Baby Food

I realized today that I haven't updated Jax's introduction to solid foods since his first few bites, and we all know how those went.  Well for over a week Jax continued to be underwhelmed by my cooking.  We have found the solution though, FRUITS!  Jax loves fruit and will even eat veggies if they have some fruit mixed in with them.  Avocado and Bananas:  awesome.  Butternut Squash and Apples:  even better.  The kid even ate some peas for me tonight after I mixed some applesauce in with it.  Hopefully before we exit the pureed food stage Jax will be ok with veggies that are mixed with fruit because I am pretty sure you can't find "Butternut Squash Apple" at the grocery store.

I am really enjoying making Jax's food.  There is something so empowering about taking an organic apple and turning it into applesauce!  I actually took a few pictures of the process (basically as proof that I was able to do this!) that I have posted below.  I hardly cook for Jasper or myself so this was a big step for me.  :)

After peeling the apples I cut them into chunks and stuck them in a dish to bake.  I didn't have a set time, just baked them until they were tender.

After they were baked I stuck them in the food processor and in a matter of seconds ... applesauce!

I bought these great freezer trays that are basically ice cube trays with lids.  Each holds about 1 ounce of baby food.  After they were frozen they were but in ziplock bags.  Each meal I pop out 2 cubes to defrost and dinner is served!

Here are some various pictures I have taken of Jax trying his food.  We get mixed results.  In fact the only ture consistency is that Jax is a VERY messy eater.

Don't let this last picture fool you, Jax isn't a big fan of peas.  We just had to keep him laughing so that he would open his mouth.  I can't blame him, I hate peas myself.
