Parenting Fail

Go ahead and sign my up for Mother of the Year.  While I was goring through old documents in the office yesterday (part of my compulsive nesting while waiting for baby Gary to get here) I found the sheet from Jax's 1 year well visit.  It said to follow back up in 3 months for a 15 month appointment.  I didn't think Jax needed to go back until 18 months, so needless to say we didn't make that appointment.  Oops.  I called and they initially said they didn't have any well visits until end of October.  When I informed them that I would be likely giving birth around that time the receptionist took pity on me and looked again.  She found one cancellation for the next day and we grabbed it.  So today we headed out to the doctor.  Of course Jax had to have his cowboy hat.  I am starting to wonder if he will continue wearing that hat for years despite the fact that it is already WAY too small for him.

All smiles before heading out the door.

While Jax was happy to go, that didn't last for long.  We had to get 3 shots at this appointment.  That would be bad enough, but then I had to go and make it worse.  The doctor asked if there were any questions or concerns I had and I spoke with her again about Jax's sleeping habits.  It isn't a concern necessarily, just more of a question about whether his are normal.  As I have said before, my kids sleeps ... a lot!  Now he goes to bed between 5:30 and 6:15 usually and sleeps through the night waking around 8 (though anywhere from 7:30-9 is normal for him).  He is also transitioning to one nap a day that last about 1 1/2 hours.  Well the doctor seemed shocked that he slept that much.  She reassured me that while on the high end, it was still ok but she wanted to run a couple of labs to rule out things like low iron, thyroid issues, etc.  So poor Jax had to have a blood draw for 5 tubes of blood.  He was so great about it, but his face afterward let me know he was ready to go home.

I seriously have to be the only parent to ever worry my kid sleeps to much and as the doctor said "it is most likely just a blessing" for me since I am so pregnant and will soon be so sleep deprived.  :)  I see lots of cuddles in Jax's future this afternoon.
