Jax Visits the Pumpkin Patch

One of Jax's favorite books is "Biscuit Visits the Pumpkin Patch."  It doesn't have to be fall for this to be the book we read over and over and over.  In fact, I am pretty sure we read that book on Christmas!  Well today Jax got to go back to the pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkins for this year.  Instead of Huber's farm, which is where we went last year, we opted for a smaller farm about 30 minutes away from our house.  I am so happy we went to this local farm because it was basically all the good parts about the big farm without all the commercial aspects.  It wasn't very crowded despite the gorgeous weather, which was nice.  I know it was a little early for most visitors, but with my ever expanding belly I knew the days where I was comfortable out in a pumpkin patch and walking all over were limited.

Jax didn't have to worry about all the walking though.
This kid had a pretty sweet ride over to the pumpkins.

Once we were over at the patch there were so many to choose from.
I think the decision was a little overwhelming for Jax at first.

He quickly got down to business though and we found some great pumpkins for us all.

"Over here guys, I found one!"

The big pumpkins had to pass the "sit test."

I honestly felt right at home with all the giant pumpkins.
With my big belly I was a little worried I would be mistaken for one!

After making out selection we headed back up to the barns.  On the way, there was an area with hay bails and lots of hay in the middle for kids to play.  Most of the kids in there were a little older and Jax decided to be more of a spectator.

When he finally did let go of his daddy's hand he just stood there and would look at us like he was asking "what am I supposed to do in this stuff?"  He is such a city kid.

We also got a funny reaction at the petting zoo.  Jax loves animal books and also loves animals from a distance.  Up close, not so much.

Looks like Jax is getting tall!  Hard to believe that next year I will have too little boys standing there. :)

Right before leaving we decided to let Jax and Jasper go for a little ride.  Because it wasn't crowded, they would run the ride whenever someone came over, so Jax and Jasper had the ride all to themselves.

I am so glad that we have still been able to do these fun family activities even though I am getting closer to my due date.  These are special memories that I will always cherish and special moments to share as our family of three.

Preschool Time?

Can't believe we are already looking at preschools for our little guy.  Granted, we are looking now for fall of 2013 (applications are due in December for the school we want!) but it still seems unreal that my little man is growing up so fast.  We toured a school today that I absolutely loved.  The campus is beautiful, lots of nature for the kids to explore, two teachers that seemed fantastic for the 2 year olds, and small class size.  My mom came with us as our resident early childhood education expert and she loved the school as well and really liked their education philosophy so I was sold.  Now I just have to come to accept that Jax is getting older.  :)

I think he is ready though.  After our school tour my mom and I went to the mall and for the first time he wanted to go check out the kid rides at the mall.  Guess which one he went to?

Birthday Boy

Today was Jasper's birthday and while he isn't big into celebrating birthdays, Jax and I are!  Jax made his daddy a very special card that included his hand prints.  I forgot to take a picture of it before Jasper took it to the office.

The big present wasn't the card, however, but rather the UL basketball Jax picked out all  by himself!  Seriously, we were at the sports store picking out a shirt for Jasper and Jax grabbed this ball at the store and wouldn't put it down.  I figured that meant he wanted to get it for his daddy.

Luckily daddy is really good at sharing because this ball spends most of the time in the playroom for a certain little boy.  :)  This kid is obsessed with all balls but especially basketballs.

Happy Birthday Jasper!

Big Boy Bike

Watch out world, the Jax man has his own set of wheels!  I bought this 3-in-1 tricycle a few weeks ago and on this gorgeous day we decided to let Jax test it out.  He isn't old enough for a traditional trike yet, but I loved how this one lets him transition into it.  You will notice that at this stage the trike has side bars, a harness, foot rests and a push handle for parents. :)  Jax didn't seem to care though and had lots of fun.  We did decide before he rides it again though he will need a helmet!  As his daddy always says "Safety First!"

The Big Game on a Big Day

I might get wife of the year award. Today is the big Kentucky Louisville game here in the bluegrass, and it happens to also be our 6th anniversary.  To his credit, when I asked Jasper if we could set the wedding date for Labor Day weekend, Jasper informed me that it would usually fall on the UK/UL game and he wanted to make sure I was ok with that.  So I will admit I had full notice of the activities that would land on our anniversary every year.

Well this year, not only do I let Jasper spend our anniversary at the game, but I also let our son have UL gear on. Last year I tried to keep Jax uncommitted, but this year I didn't really see the point, especially since I have never cheered for Kentucky in football.  I have already warned Jasper to not expect me to be so accommodating for the UK/UL basketball game though.

For the record, we did go out another night for our anniversary.  We got all dressed up and headed to a nice restaurant which we haven't done in a long time.  It was nice to have some adult time and be out of the house past 6 (Jax's bedtime)!  It was pretty comical though that at this fancy restaurant we were seated next to the one table with kids ... a 3 year old and a baby.  The hostess must have known us well.  :)
