Shower for Jessie

So I know this blog so far has been all pregnancy/baby related events. However believe it or not I do have other things going on right now. My cousin Jessie is getting married in May and my mom and I threw a wedding shower for her. Since her wedding is one month after my due date, we did the shower a little earlier than usual so I could still help host it!

Here are a few pictures from the shower.

The happy couple plus the father of the bride.

Jessie and Nana

We had such a great time and I can't wait for their wedding in May. It should be Baby Bird's first wedding as well! Speaking of Baby Bird, it is hard to do a post without SOMETHING baby related.

Jasper travels for work some and he has brought back an outfit for our little guy from each trip. His latest trip was to New York and I am in love with this little outfit.
Jasper is a big Yankee fan. How a guy that is born and raised in Kentucky becomes a Yankees fan, I am not exactly sure, but I can't wait for this outfit to fit. So adorable.

Deal of the Week: Amazon Subscribe and Save

Can I first start off by saying how much I love Amazon. I hadn't used it much until I created a baby registry on there, but now I am addicted. I first started out signing up for Amazon Mom. Sign up is free and you get 3 months of Amazon Prime which gives you free 2 day shipping (and returns) on any purchases shipped directly from Amazon. You get another month of free shipping for each purchase of $25 you make from the baby store.

Anyway, another savings they have is Subscribe and Save. S&S allows you to set up a subscription to that particular product (you will have one sent every 1,2,3 or 6 months) and they reward you with an additional 15% discount. Combine that with the 15% discount you get for being a member of Amazon Mom and that is 30%. I had a few concerns about S&S but after looking into it I found that

* You can cancel your subscription at any time.
* They only charge you when the item ships
* All orders ship for free
* They send you an email before they send the next item, so if you haven’t used up what you have you can adjust (or cancel) your subscription.

So here is where I got the deal. I don't have any diapers yet except for some in a diaper cake my friend Kaelin made for my shower. While I don't really know how many I will need, I know my little guy will be in size 1 for awhile so I thought it was safe to go ahead and buy a big box of these.

Amazon had Pampers Swaddlers DryMax Diapers Size 1 216 count for $46.99 on sale for $40.20. I had two coupon codes to use as well. Many of the baby and parenting magazines have Amazon coupons for 20% off diapers. There are two different types of codes: one that starts with YJ and one that starts with YT. You can use one of each and stack them if you want. I don't have any of these magazines but my OB's office does and I found one in their magazine in the waiting room yesterday. The other I got from the back of a magazine in the dressing room of the maternity clothing store.

So I used both coupon codes and stacked them. Here is how my order summary looked:

Amazon Prime Member
Items: $40.20
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
Promotion Applied -$8.04 (one of the coupon codes)
Promotion Applied -$8.04 (the other coupon code)
Subscription Discount -$12.06 (from S&S)

Total Before Tax: $12.06
Estimated Tax: $0.72
Total: $12.78

Add that the remainder of a gift card I had from a Groupon and I spent just over $5 on the box. Not bad.

Trial Run

So today Baby Bird apparently thought we needed to check out the Labor & Delivery wing of our hospital so we would be ready for the big day. Last night I noticed that I had not felt movement all day which was unusual. I drank cold water and juice and then laid down which usually gets him moving but had no luck. I figured he might just be sleeping (I had been very busy that day) and so I went to sleep early myself. Well this morning I still didn't feel any movement and I always feel him move in the morning. So after an hour or so I called my OB office and spoke to the on call OB who told me to come in to L&D right away. Of course this made Jasper and I very worried so we rushed over.

Even though we aren't scheduled to take a tour of the hospital until this Thursday we were able to find our way pretty easily and were admitted right away. The nurse performed a non-stress test and soon Baby Bird was moving for us. He apparently didn't like the monitor much because he would kick the monitor and then move away from it. I lost count of how many times the nurse had to re-position the monitor.

We were released by lunch time and told to continue our kick counts nightly and call if we stop having movement again. I am so relieved that everything is ok and there was nothing serious. I think Baby Bird just wanted us prepared for when he is ready to make his big appearance. At least we got our own private tour of the L&D wing and are now pre-registered!

Deal of the : Diaper Bag

Saw this deal today and thought it was a great one for the Korbie Diaper Bag. I have seen this bag in the past and liked the reviews. I think it is way too big for an every day bag but looks great if you are headed to the pool, park, zoo, etc. Of course for that limited of use I can't imagine paying the full retail price of $149.99.

However Graveyard mall has the Korbie 3 in 1 diaper bag on sale for 59.99 plus 5.99 for shipping. Use coupon code hipbaby30 and you will save $30 making your total 29.99 plus shipping.

If you look on the Graveyard website you will see a demo video of the bag to show you exactly how it works.

Anyway, thought I would share!

First Shower and a Surprise!

Saturday was a fantastic day in the Ward household. First off I had my first baby shower. It was thrown by two of my closest friends who I have known since college, Kaelin and Ashley. Ashley actually gave us the nickname for this baby "Baby Bird" (I went by the nickname Bird in college) and that was the theme for the shower.

There was a craft for all the guests to participate in. The hosts had provided wooden bird houses and decorations that matched the color scheme of my nursery for all the guests to decorate.

Here is how the adorable birdhouses turned out, so cute. Now I need to figure out where in the nursery they are going to go.

My Mom made made an adorable knit hat. I was pretty surprised since I didn't know she could knit. Apparently this was her first attempt since she was 11 and my Grandmother had taught her how. I was pretty impressed with the result!

Mom also got me a Giraffe Rocker that I had seen a few months back. While it was a hit with the younger crew there, the box that it came in was an even bigger hit as you can see below.

Both Grandmothers to be were here. Tina is going to be called Mimi and my mom is going to be called Madre.

This picture is of all the college friends that were able to attend. A few were missing because of work or sick kiddos. I feel so lucky to have such a great group of ladies that I was able to meet and stay in contact with over the years. Their love and support has meant so much.

So when I come home from the shower and start to unload everything into the nursery, I am surprised by this ...

The crib! Sorry the picture quality is so poor, it was taken on my iphone. I knew Jasper had picked it up on Friday but he told me that he and his brother would not be able to put it together for a week or so. I was really disappointed that we couldn't get it together right away but had said that was fine. He just wanted to surprise me by putting it together with his brother during my shower. It was so sweet and I might have shed a tear or two. Now we just need to put up the decal that goes behind the crib and mobile this week! I will post pictures soon!
